“When I was just a lad long ago, I would read histories of Oregon and study maps. I longed to live here. Now I do. Nancy is the “Green Thumb” of our vineyard. I’m the tractor driver and field hand. I actually delight in the work of grape growing, particularly on those glorious summer days when I’m sailing down the rows on my tractor accompanied by hawks in pursuit of the prey I scare up. I love the fall--and the harvest season--most of all. I especially enjoy the easy laughter and earthy talk among the pickers. They are a diverse lot who obviously like one another. It is a moveable feast and a small and cheery democracy.”
